The Bluford Board of Education held its regular October meeting on Thursday, October 20. There was a small agenda with the personnel report being the only action item. The Board acted to employ Donna Wilkey as the junior high head volleyball coach and Dawn Bedar as the junior high assistant girls basketball coach.
The Board heard correspondence from Steve England and Gordon Ellis, who shared a presentation thanking the school district for participating in the Run for the Wall. This program is a veteran motorcycle ride from California to Washington D.C. in conjunction with Memorial Day each year. One of the stops is in Mount Vernon at the airport, where the veterans are treated to a hot meal. Bluford/Webber students help serve meals each year.
Also, the Board received information about a district wide communication platform that will be adopted called, Remind. Numerous teachers currently use the service for one-way and two-way classroom communication. District-wide adoption will allow all classroom, club, and extra-curricular groups to utilize the same platform so parents do not need to have multiple apps. or programs to receive communication.
The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board office. Additionally, a special Board of Education meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 2, at 4:00 p.m. to discuss personnel.
