The Bluford USD #318 Board of Education held the regular May meeting on Tuesday, May 17, taking action on several items. The personnel report included the resignation of Sierra Forristall as the junior high head softball coach and the employment of Ashley Raney as the junior high cheer coach.
The Board approved the advertisement to seek bids for fuel and milk. Action was also taken to set the time in conjunction with the June BOE meeting for a Public Hearing for the Amended Budget. The district has annually approved an amended budget at the end of the fiscal to have an accurate financial picture to be able to plan for the next fiscal year. Additionally, the Board acted on a resolution to provide property tax relief for 2022 taxes. The district was awarded a grant in the spring of 2020, which led to two years of property tax relief for all district residents (20 & 21). The resolution directs the Superintendent to calculate the overall rate to be consistent with what the district predicted two years ago in conjunction with information that was shared about the Property Tax Relief Grant. The calculated rates for each of the taxing bodies (elementary, high school, & unit), will be approximately $.05 lower per $100 of assessed value than 2019 taxes prior to the grant.
The Board also approved forming a sports co-operative with Farrington Grade School for next school year. The co-op will become official pending approval from the Farrington Board of Education.
The Board appointed Crystal Marlow to the Personnel Committee of the Board and Katelyn Lewis to the Curriculum Committee of the Board.
The Board also approved two Memorandums of Understanding with the B-W Education Association. The first clarified contract language for the retirement incentive which is included in the contract. The second afforded administrative leave days for COVID related absences to all employees regardless of vaccination status.
