The March Board of Education meeting was held Thursday, March 18. The Board acted on several personnel items including accepting the resignation of Melissa Beckley-Corbett effective at the end of the school year. Additionally, Levi Weathers was employed as a full-time art teacher for next school year. Mr. Weathers will be graduating from SIUE in May. With this employment, the district is expanding the art program from part-time to full-time. Additionally, Gary Hamerski was officially approved as the junior high bowling coach. The Board also took action to employ the junior high boys, high school boys, and high school girls basketball coaches for 22-23.
In other action the board approved a district wellness policy consistent with the Illinois State Board of Education guidelines.
The board also waived student fees for the 2022-2023 school year. This will mark the third consecutive year that students can attend Bluford Schools completely free of charge. All students receive free lunch and breakfast and there are no athletic, book, technology, or driver education fees.
Finally, the Board accepted a bid from Bevis Construction of $94,700 for phase two of the outdoor learning area which will include a greenhouse, pavilion, and recreation area, located due south of the existing agriculture shop. This phase includes all of the concrete work including an ADA accessible ramp and side walk with stairs up the hillside.
