The Bluford Board of Education held its regular January Board meeting on Thursday, February 22, 2024. The following items were discussed and action taken:
1. Approval of the Consent Agenda, including Minutes for the January 18, 2024 Regular Board of Education Meeting; Executive Session Minutes from January 18, 2024 to remain confidential; Bills for February 2024; Financial Reports for January 2024; Suspensions Imposed by Building Administrators for January 2024;
2. Superintendent, Principals and Maintenance Reports were given. The superintendent's report included information on recent student successes (Winter Sports and JH/HS Academic Teams), FFA week, audit progress, facility items, sponsoring a JCCC scholarship again, legislative update, and the governor's budget address.
GS Principal's reports included 2nd trimester highlights, upcoming events such as P/T conferences, Kindergarten USA show, Kindergarten screenings, and student news.
HS Principal's reports included 2nd trimester highlights, upcoming events such as P/T conferences, FAFSA completion night, FFA banquet, and RLC career exploration event.
Maintenance report included minor facility repairs and results from our Health, Life, Safety inspection which had zero violations.
3. The district received one FOIA request from SmartProcure for Commercial Purposes requesting Vendor/PO Information. It was responded to in a timely manner.
4. The district approved a renewal of the electric supply contract. A representative from AGE was present to discuss the changes in electric supply rates and fee structure.
5. Approval of 2024 Graduation Dates: Saturday, May 18, 2024 - BGS will be held at 9:30AM and WHS at 11:00AM.
6. Approval of the 2024-2025 school calendar, as presented.
7. Approval of an FMLA request from Katelynn Phelps.
8. Approval of the 2024-2025 Webber High School Course Description Booklet, as presented.
9. Approved a resolution authorizing sale of school personal property, as presented (This is for the mobile home the district acquired through the sale of delinquent taxes.)
10. The Board entered into Executive Session and the following items were approved following executive session:
- Accepted the letter of resignation from the following employees: Allyson Jones (5th Grade Teacher for 2024-2025), Shanna Lusby (JH Asst. Track effective immediately), McKenzie Bejma (HS English Teacher), Ethan Gowler (JH Science Teacher), Jaxon Helm (JH Math Teacher);
- Approved voluntary transfer of Olivia Heinzman from 3rd to 5th grade for the 2024-2025 school year;
- Approved voluntary transfer of Tina Marlow from HS SPED aide to HS Spanish Aide/Student Monitor for the 2024-2025 school year;
- Approved postings for Elementary Teacher, HS English, JH Math, JH Science, JH Asst. Track Coach; HS SPED Aide
- Employed Raeghan Fitzjerrells as Elementary Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year;
- Employed Stephanie Wilson as JH Asst. Track Coach for the 2023-2024 season;
- Approved Levi Weathers as a JH Volunteer Asst. Track Coach for the 2023-2024 season;
- Approved a one-time bonus of $1,000.00 to Kim McCormick
